Jake Sheppard by Jake Sheppard

Friday morning we arrived early at Speedworld, me and Dad walked the track. I liked the look of the jumps but some of the berms looked like they needed more work. I was looking forward to having a go at the big double, but in practice I misjudged the distance and cased badly, crashing out.

Second practice I felt smooth and the track was wearing in well, some good lines were appearing. Qualifying I couldn’t find the speed I was looking for with the track starting to get pretty rough in some corners and qualified 5th. After a bit of a break while the track maintenance took place, I got ready for the first moto. Then while watching the first race the rain came down, I prepared as I normally would and with the 5th pick of the gate Dad suggested that I choose as inside gate. The Honda performed well and I managed the holeshot, I led for the first five corners dropping back to third before the big double. Half way into the second lap I took a corner a bit tight catching my foot peg on a tyre and went down loosing two positions, the rest of the moto positions were unchanged, giving me a 5th place. The cancellation of moto 2 due to the rain was disappointing, as it also would have been for all the other riders. Thank you once again to the SEL-J team, MXDenzki and RM Tolentino for looking after me.###
