Visiting a Friend after the Storm

This is KA VERGEL TRAIL PIT STOP…it is the haven of trail riders here. It’s a beautiful place where we can relax and rest after riding a long and tiring trail day while the old man and his wife prepare and cook our lunch.

This place was lying in the valley, in the center of the mountainous area in San Mateo and I was worried about the safety of our friend Ka Vergel and his family after the storm. Last time I tried to visit the place to see if they were ok but failed to do so because of the very bad weather…so I attempted again to penetrate the place yesterday after distributing the relief and fortunately I was able to reach the place. Ka Vergel's pit stop is in a very remote area. I was able to get there yesterday in spite of lots of landslides I encountered along the way. Ka Vergel was there and as usual flashed his beautiful smile upon seeing me, he was alone and his family was already evacuated in safer ground. He opted to stay he said, coz' he just can't leave his home and worried about his chickens, his dogs and his monkey. The neighboring place was still submerged in flood waters; he said it was caused by the overflowed mini dam in the place. Trail roads vanished and covered with muds…it’s a miracle this place was spared…it’s still beautiful as ever. The hut in the middle of mini lagoon where riders gather to rest and eat together is still intact. It’s still inviting and looks very relaxing. I spent an hour with him and decided to leave when I noticed that the clouds darkened and threatened to rain again. He pointed me the safest way out and that safest way took me almost 3 hours before I saw the concrete road again it was a very tiring weekend for me...but seeing and knowing that friends were safe gave me some peace of mind and I thanked the Lord for keeping them and their family safe from harm that these calamities brought to us…by the way I never got the chance to see that kid again...I just hope he’s in a better place now…warm and not hungry anymore…###
